"Studying abroad will also impact my vocational life in the future. I have already had recruiters look at my resume and express a great interest in my time abroad, and remark on how it is good to see that I have experience with other cultures, and will affect me positively when it comes time to get a job. Overall, it was the most beneficial and rewarding experience of my life."

WHY GET INVOLVED

The 21st century has been nicknamed "The Pacific Century".  It is expected that the burgeoning economic and cultural influence of Asia will impact the world in much the same way as Europe dominated the political landscape in the 19th century and the United States in the 20th century.  Young adults in North America MUST be ready for the impact that this area will have on their future, politically, economically and socially.  It is critical that our future leaders have a sound understanding and appreciation of this region as it continues to develop as the hub of the increasing interconnected world.  International education experiences are a clear path for our future leaders to gain this understanding and appreciation.  Living within these cultures provides the intimate understanding of trends and business practices, which are required to effectively work in a collaborative effort with the rest of the world in order to solve the challenges of tomorrow.

The Asia Pacific region is an emerging economic and political powerhouse.  As North American companies expand their business connections in the Pacific, university graduates with international experience in Asia will be aggressively recruited.  In order to be competitive in the increasingly globalized market, these students must gain exposure to Asian-Pacific cultures to effectively collaborate with business and political leaders.

International education experiences are the most effective means for immersing future leaders in the Asia Pacific region in order to gain a realistic understanding of the influence that the region will have on the world in coming years.
